Pagoda assembles imagery from Maharam Stories in an intricately intertwined composition. Reminiscent of the fantastic moral scenes of Dutch Painter Hieronymus Bosch, Pagoda depicts the whimsical and grotesque in a richly layered tableau.

James Jean (b. 1979, Taiwan) is a Los Angeles-based artist who first gained recognition as a commercial illustrator but has since turned to painting. His lush, lyrical drawings feature decaying fantasy worlds populated by myriad mythical creatures. Jean graduated from New York's School of Visual Arts and launched his career illustrating graphic novels and book covers. His paintings reveal his masterful story-telling.
