Suzanne Huguenin (1916-2008, Switzerland) was hired as an assistant to then-Knoll Textiles director Eszter Haraszty in 1952, before succeeding Haraszty as head of Knoll Textiles from 1955 until 1963. As director, Huguenin worked closely with Florence Knoll to herald significant developments for the department, including sourcing new talent like weaver Paul Maute and introducing innovative designs such as open-weave casements and durable upholsteries comprising artificial fibers. She is noted for introducing Nylon Homespun to the Knoll line, which was an upholstery designed to look like a handspun wool made from a strong nylon fiber that offered resistance to wear. As one of the best-selling textiles in Knoll history, Nylon Homespun exemplified Knoll Textiles' commitment to material experimentation and innovation.
