Pure Potential No. 1-4

399942

The precise geometric shapes of Pure Potential No. 1-4 were created using architectural tools over a stable grid. Referencing architectural drawing and symbols from Tibetan thangkas, Indian mandalas, and Balinese art, Pure Potential 1-4 imagines a state of amorphous energy before it transitions into form.

Louise Despont (b. 1983) is known for using architectural tools such as compasses, stencils, French curves and rulers to create intricate drawings on ledger paper. Her works often give geometric form to invisible phenomena of consciousness, creation, and energetic potential using a limited vocabulary of shapes stabilized by a grid or scaffold. Despont is a graduate of Brown University (Rhode Island) and lives and works in New York City and Ubud, Bali.
