Legerdemain
300029
A digital composition based on sixteen paintings by Matt Connors, Legerdemain combines two types of seemingly disparate marks: structural elements such as clean lines and framing devices with spontaneous applications of dripped, brushed, gestural, saturated, or transparent paint. As though freshly revealed, the forms create the illusion of being simultaneously fluid and fixed, absorbent and permeable, light and solid.

Matt Connors (b. 1973, United States) is a painter known for his refined technique and use of color throughout structured works that seem to occur serendipitously. Referencing art historical traditions of minimalism and abstraction, Connors often works by soaking thin layers of wet acrylic into fixed compositions that capture movement, immediacy, and permeability. Connors received his BFA from Bennington College (Vermont) and MFA from Yale University (Connecticut). He lives and works in Los Angeles and New York City.
