Ari Marcopoulos (b. 1957, Holland) is a self-taught photographer and film artist. He began his career in New York as an assistant to Andy Warhol and later Irving Penn. Marcopoulos's work presents an anthropological, insider look at alternative subcultures, including those of artists, musicians, snowboarders, and skateboarders. Marcopoulos lives and works in New York and California.
